Mindful of our environmental responsibilities and the need for the world to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, we’re introducing a new climate care initiative — Crozier UK Carbon Offsetting Programme.
Transportation of art works is one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the art sector. Being a part of the art sector ecosystem, we believe it is our responsibility to help reduce art transport’s carbon footprint. Therefore, continuing our commitment towards a greener future, we are now launching Crozier UK Carbon Offsetting Programme.
Carbon offsetting is an internationally recognised way to compensate for your emissions by funding an equivalent carbon dioxide saving elsewhere. It provides a mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the most cost-effective and economically efficient manner.
Together with our carbon offsetting partner ClimateCare, we have discussed the unique requirements of the art industry and analysed the environmental impact of global art transport.
To help our clients take measurable steps to reduce their carbon footprint, Crozier UK will now automatically arrange the carbon offset as we provide you with art transport services.
How will it work?
Based on the volume, destination and mode of transport, we will calculate the total emissions produced by your shipment and the cost to offset them. The carbon offset charge will then be added to your estimate and invoice. At the end of every six-months period, we will offset the combined carbon emissions by purchasing verified carbon credits from high quality carbon reduction projects.
Our partners
We will be partnering with ClimateCare, climate and sustainable development experts. They are trusted by some of the world’s leading organisations to deliver high-impact carbon offsetting programmes which protect the environment, increase biodiversity, tackle poverty, and improve health.
Our commitment to sustainable future
We have been at the forefront of setting sustainability standards for the fine art logistics industry and continuously work on reducing our carbon footprint. We take measurable steps to reduce our impact on the environment, including offsetting all company travel, moving to paperless methods of working, investing in low-emission and electric vehicles, using renewable energy in our buildings and more.
For additional information about this project or to find out more about our sustainable art world initiatives, contact your usual account manager or give us a call on +44 (0)207 735 0566.

The safety and well being of both our staff and clients is of the utmost importance. We have been working on ways to introduce measures that look after our team while ensuring that we can offer the same level of service.
Following UK Government advice, we are introducing measures that will change our office habits and transport procedures when we return to work. This will be be reviewed regularly based on the information available.
Our operators will be asked to continue a work from home policy. Senior staff will be in the office when needed.
Working together, we can continue to help with estimates, storage and artwork packing, UK and European based road freight and international air freight services.
We will follow social distancing of 2 meters where possible
There is a requirement for drivers and technicians to wear PPE and face masks when visiting a client for the purposes of collection, deliveries and installations; unless a client specifically asks for a driver or technician to not wear a face covering
A requirement that anyone showing signs of sickness does not come to work and self isolates if needed
A general promotion of cleanliness and hygiene
Technical work
We will look at “cohorting” teams to work together on daily vehicles. The number of technicians will try to be limited to two with additional staff arriving separately. If this is not possible, additional measures will be taken such as sitting side-by-side (not face-to-face) and increasing ventilation if appropriate.
Courier requests must involve a follow car
All vehicles will continue to be cleaned regularly
Loading and unloading of vehicles will be staggered
We will consult with clients on a job by job basis should there be any specific requirements
The security and maintenance of our warehouses have not been effected
Viewings
Viewings should be pre-booked with at least 24 hours’ notice
A maximum number of two visitors will be allowed into a viewing room at any one time
Please allow extra time for cleaning and packing in-between viewings
Third party carriers
All third party carriers should be pre-booked with at least 24 hours’ notice
Visitors must have their own PPE
On arrival at our premises, carriers must report to reception or call designated person to confirm arrival. The number of carriers in our loading area at one time will be restricted
Once approved, the carrier must remain with their vehicle until told to enter and directed to the designated loading area
Third party carriers should comply for our requests for a safe exchange of items and paperwork done at a distance
Social distancing must be followed when it is safe to do so. If not, work should be done side by side, or facing away from each other, rather than face to face if possible
Any packing materials and equipment must not be left or disposed of at our premises.

We have been commissioned to perform the installation of the ‘Gift Horse’ by Hans Haacke at the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.
The project involved the import from New York of the sculpture in a sea container and assembly at our Central London warehouse under the supervision of technicians from the gallery and the artist. We designed an outer structure to enable lifting of the sculpture into place on site and the bolting system to secure the sculpture in place. The installation involved transportation to Trafalgar Square using a low-loading trailer vehicle and lifting with a 30 tonne crane. The area needed fencing and security during this operation and the paving needed protecting. The pertinent permits and traffic controls to allow for the entry and exit of the vehicles were arranged with the GLC.

The Science Museum Group purchased the Soyuz space module. We were contracted to arrange the definitive import from Russia and the delivery to the Science Museum as well as the installation at all venues of the UK tour.
Transport and installation at ten UK venues of an item weighing 1650kg. Each venue in the tour required site visits to determine the most adequate means of transport and lifting for the installation. All venues required a site visit and Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) prior to operation. All venues required floor protection. Additional museum objects have been added to the tour which require climate control storage and transport.
June – September 2017 We used a 20 tonne crane to lift the module over a barrier and directly into the museum through large doors. We made a special reinforced pallet to move the object during the whole tour. We lifted the module into place onto an exhibition plinth with a 3 tonne gantry with a 6m beam.
27 September – 19 November 2017 We dismantled lifted the external barrier which allowed us to lift the module off the outside platform at the back of the Science Museum and onto a curtain sider vehicle with a 5T fork lift and to be strapped and secured. At Bradford we carried out the reverse operation with a 5T forklift and helped install the parachute with a cherry picker.
22 November 2017 – 15 January 2018 This venue required the protection of an old railway turntable where the module was installed. Curtain-sider vehicle and fork-lifts were used.
17 January – 8 March 2018 The Railway Museum presents the challenge of having road access limited by a low bridge of 370cm high. For the delivery to York we arranged for a low-loader vehicle to carry out the transport from Shildon to York. This gave 10cm clearance from the top of the protected module to the bridge. The 5 tonne fork-lift also needed to be delivered to York with a low-loader. Once in the museum compound, the installation was the same as previously, with gantry, long pallet truck and floor protection.
10 March – 13 May 2018 Collection from York also required a low-loader due to the bridge access mentioned above. On arrival in Manchester we hade a 5T fork lift delivered for the immediate unloading, lifting onto a pre-built platform at an external alley-way door, and installation with gantry in the exhibition space.
17 May – 4 August 2018 This venue required night-time delivery with a crane via the large doors in Chambers Street in Edinburgh. Installation followed the previous examples with gantry.
11 August – 5 November 2018 Peterborough Cathedral has a threshold that is 5cm narrower than the object due to the protruding stone foundations. We offloaded the module with a 5T fork-lift and lifted it over the threshold with a gantry and 6m beam, before installing the module on the altar of the cathedral and assisting suspending the parachute from the inside of the dome.
15 November 2018 – 10 February 2019 Delivery on a curtain-sider vehicle and offloading with a 5 tonne fork-lift.. The module does not fit through the museum doorway and will be moved over the door on a specially built platform. Installation at the museum with follow the previous method.
19 February – 12 May 2019 Ferry transport of both vehicle to Belfast and same day install with gantry. The venue requires the fabrication of a special support for the gantry feet due to space restrictions and delicate floor (in progress).
